Dr. Qiyang Lu was born and raised in Huai’an, Jiangsu, China. He received his bachelor’s degree from Tsinghua University (2012) and his PhD degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, 2018), both in Materials Science and Engineering. His PhD work was awarded best PhD thesis award from MIT. He did his postdoctoral study at Stanford University with a joint fellowship at Advanced Light Source, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He received several prestigious awards, including Graduate Student Gold Award from Materials Research Society and Ross Coffin Purdy award from American Ceramic Society.

Yunyun Zhu (朱云云)

Dr. Ying Lu was born and raised in Anhui, China. She received her bachelor and master degree from South China University of Technology, and her PhD degree from Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences on structural ceramics. After that She worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Shenzhen University on solid oxide cells. In December 2020, she moved to Westlake University to continue her postdoctoral research.

Dr. Jingle Wang (王璟乐)

Jingle was born and raised in Zhuhai, Guangdong. He received his BE, ME and PhD of Chemical Engineering at China University of Mining & Technology-Beijing, and was awarded National Scholarship and Board Scholarship. His PhD Thesis focuses on solid oxide cells. He was a visting student at Technical University of Vienna (TU Wien, Prof. Juergen Fleig’s group) during 2019, and studied thin film model electrodes to elucidate ORR mechanism at elevated temperature. He joined the SSI Lab at Westlake University in July 2021 as a postdoctoral scholar, focusing on defect chemistry of mixed protonic and electronic conductors and its applications in carbon dioxide hydrogenation and utilization.

Haowen Chen (陈浩文)

Haowen Chen received his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Harbin Institute of Technology 2016 majoring in Heat, Ventilation and Air Condition. At 2018, he graduated from Boston University majoring in Mechanical Engineering. His previous research was experimental investigation of liquid evaporation at nanoscale. With huge passion in phase transition, he joined Solid State Ionic Lab in September 2020. As a PhD student, now he focuses on tuning the physical properties of strongly correlated materials by using oxygen and proton defect via electrochemical method. In the future, he wishes to extend his research to applications including energy harvesting and neuromorphic computing.

Yang Hu (胡杨)

He spent half a year at National Tsinghua University as an exchange student. From May 2021, he joined the Solid State Ionics Lab. In the future, his research will focus on neuromorphic computing.

Luhan Wei was born and raised in Zhang’zhou, Fujian, China. He received his Bachelor degree from Northeastern University in Functional Materials (expected in July 2021). His previous research focused on first-principle study and performance modulation of transition metal/Graphene composite electrocatalysts. From July 2021, he will join the Solid State Ionics Lab as a PhD student, his future research will focus on the mechanistic understanding of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) by using various in situ/operando characterization tools.

Song Mao was born and raised in Suzhou, Anhui Province. He received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Central South University in 2019 and 2022, respectively, both in Metallurgical Engineering. He joined Solid State Ionic Lab in August 2022. As a PhD student, now he focuses on molten oxide electrolysis (MOE) and related oxygen evolution reaction (OER) on an inert anode. In the future, he wishes to reduce metal oxides with electrons, rather than with carbon or coke.
